Hour 1: Lost All Respect

We talked yesterday, and maybe a good bit of future casting by us, saying, hey, is anyone talking about the Lakers, the pressure on Luka Doncic, getting rid of LeBron James? And they come out here and debut their new lineup, which I saw affectionately some tweeter into inside the NBA called the Snowtime Lakers because you're trotting out three white guys as the core of your roster.

went out there and absolutely put in work in a 127-105 win over the Golden State Warriors.

That was good old-fashioned butt-whooping.

So what I want to know is, obviously, we don't follow the NBA as much as, obviously, the NBA analysts and insiders.

But I would like to know, Devin or Bubba, if you know in hearing – analysts talk at the beginning of the season.

Were they talking up Walker Kessler? Walker Kessler, 22 first-rounder out of Auburn, four years in Utah, comes over to sign and trade.

His best year was last year, averaging 14-12.

And he gets 26 points and 10 dunks in this game.

Was anybody saying, yeah, Walker Kessler is the difference.

The Lakers now have a big man.

I'm truly asking.

I don't think there was any real sentiment that it was a slam dunk.

I think they were hopeful that it was going to work out.

And they've needed a big man for years in L.A., And a four-year, $130 million contract seems like a lot, but for a top-line center, you probably get way more than that.

So I think they were kind of thinking, hey, let's hope he does it.

And again, it's one game.

One game, right.

One game where he now became the only Laker besides Wilt Chamberlain.

to go 12 or 12 or better from the floor.

Wilt did it in 1969.

Walker Kessler did it last night.

12 points, none of them outside of the restricted area.

It was lob city for him.

And to your point, Dad, I think the number on that contract felt big because Walker Kessler had had an availability problem during his time in Utah.

Now coming over here, that's still the question of did you pay a lot for a player that's not going to be on the court when you need it? But once you got him there, last year they were reliving it in the broadcast booth, the DeAndre Ayton experiment.
