The gayborhood: Moving is hard. Can Grindr be a real estate guide?
But yeah, since we're talking about all finding our own little neighborhoods, I figured this week, should we talk about gay neighborhoods? The gayborhood of it all.
Yeah.
What would you describe as being a gayborhood?
So for me, or does one of you want to go first? I have thoughts.
I think it is the area or areas in a city where in like the, like 60s, 70s, 80s is probably what I'll say.
Maybe 70s, 80s, 90s where like gay people were able to congregate and live relatively safely.
And so like, cause back then, we had to like group
up.
And we are talking about this from an American perspective.
Sure.
I think it translates a bit.
I think it does.
Yeah.
Okay.
It's just
found community, definitely in larger cities.
Yes.
Where people migrate, you find your safe neighborhoods.
Yeah.
And they evolved to the scene of the time.
Yeah.
Especially like back when it was like still illegal to, maybe not like be gay but to like do gay shit um you wanted to like be around your people so it was easier to like find other people and like you know
especially when a lot of the venues couldn't outwardly advertise as being that yeah it was much more word of mouth than being in the community yeah
i do think for me typically a gayborhood is like a place that which we'll get to in a bit like was probably gentrified by gay people that kind of came in because it was cheaper rent um And they kind of make the community their own for better or for worse.
