Carnell has done a little bit more than he's probably comfortable doing.
Was it easier to get out of your comfort zone when you see that other guys were willing to take that step as well?

Yeah, guys like Carnell stepping up, it just makes me want to step up even more and just lead the whole line and also lead the offense and then lead the team.
been like with the tackles? I mean, obviously, you could be four deep, and then you obviously even came in and made a difference earlier.
Just what's that been like?

Coaches are always pushing each other, and same thing in the field, no medium.
Would you have guessed at this time a year ago that you'd be practicing to potentially be the starting left tackle right now?

I thought it would be guard, but just going out and trying to be the best player I can be.
experience playing guard? How do you feel like that's translated now to being able to be a tackle?

Um, well, I don't have you can translate the physicality from the guard and always having that your three or G lineup across from you.
you
Do you have a position you feel most comfortable right now?
comfortable.
Have you enjoyed playing
Do you prefer left or
What would you say is the, for people who have never done it, what is the adjustment when you move from guard to tackle? What are you working on? What's the differences that you have to make?

I guess playing basketball in high school helps a lot, and having some good feet, quick feet, that helps too.

And then just being coachable plays a big factor too, and just always come ready to learn and ready to compete.
Confidence being a huge thing, what did last year's camp do for your confidence, playing everywhere and succeeding?

Oh, yeah, last year's camp, I mean, I pretty much got thrown into the fire with Donnie having his leg, and I just got thrown in.

I had to produce, or if I couldn't produce, then we weren't going to win any games.
And then did that just carry through the entire season? Yeah.
That's when you knew you could play? Yeah.
what are you seeing from Carter Lowe, and what areas is he developing? What areas is he needed?
Have you been able to talk to him about some of the struggles you've gone through?
Did having to play that early in the season maybe do more for your development than maybe anything else? Just because of how you're talking, like, you had to have that mindset of, I have to do this or else we're probably not going to win.

Yeah, I was pushed camp last year, and then I just had to have the mindset, so
yeah.
Last year, Donnie made his first start at tackle.
It seems like your potential, one of your first starts at tackle is going to be against one of the Texas defensive line.
How much are you looking forward to an opportunity to prove yourself right away? It would be a good tackle.
It might as well come against this really good defensive line.
Yeah, it's going

And just trying to prove and show, like prove to what I've been working on and just trying to be the
best player I can be.
How much do guys like Kenyatta, Caden, CJ, how much do they prepare you for a defensive line like that?

And then just going against that every single day, I feel like I'll be ready.
Austin, you talked about Parker earlier.
What have you seen from Jake and Jamal, like the other two freshmen, even if

They just keep coming every day, keep competing, keep working, keep working hard, and they're going to be really good.
What was the process of relief? got you moving to left tackle a lot this camp like how how was it first discussed how did it first happen were you surprised by it were you expecting it just so interested in how this happened

I wouldn't say I was surprised because, like, last year I was playing left and right, so, like, it came natural for me to, like, play both sides.

But, I mean, we were just trying to find, like I said earlier, like a primary position, a secondary position.

Like, I mean, last year we had, like, ten different rotations, whatever that was.
Where do you feel like you have the most to go on that transition to left half?
it take
you to play
seven?
You did some left tackle in the spring early, right? Yep.
So this isn't completely new to you? No, no.
Is left tackle now your primary

I mean, if I have to, I'll go right tomorrow if I will, probably, I don't know.
Do you think people are making too big a deal about it and you're just playing whatever spot they put you at? Or, you know, left tackle still sort of got some kind of an aura to
allowed you to just be this fluid? Because you've never really had one specific problem, you know?

I guess it just starts, like, who I am as an individual, like, how I grew up.

And, like, as I grew up in high school, like, I played in every position besides center.

So, and then that coming here was just, it just felt natural for me to go one play at right and then the next play go to the left.
So you didn't play center in high school, but you can do it in a day?
