The Top 100 Australian Books afterparty

Yeah, I love a little data dive.

I was surprised by how many cookbooks there were on the list.

I was heartened because I love a cookbook and I think they are such a part of our community and the way we share stories around food.

What were your thoughts on that?

Well, look, I was happy.

There were three cookbooks on the list.

One was Nagi Maharshi's Dinner.

From Recipe Teen Eats.

Yes, of course.

There was Stephanie Alexander's Cook's Companion.

What a staple, I think.

I mean, is there an Australian household that does not have that enormous tome? What else do we use to prop up our computers? when we're doing meetings on things like that and of course um the australian women's weekly birthday cake book which i voted for and it did come up very high on the list there was a bit of controversy hillary you know on socials and on the phone line people going why are cookbooks on this list you know we're talking about books so these books um What can I say? Australia voted for them.

So obviously enough people thought that they mattered.

And I will say that the cookbooks we have in our homes, I mean, I voted for the birthday cake book because when I thought of the most important books I have ever had in my life, that was one of them because I spent hours on the couch.

You're three months out from your birthday.

And I've got to pour through every book.

Well, I had Mickey Mouse last year.

Can't have that.

Mum did The Train when I was one, so I can't have that.

You know, I'm really liking the look of the duck this year,

Mum.

Piano, boring, but yummy.

Yeah, and that whole section for girls, for boys, that's dated a bit.

But, you know, I have a copy now.

I've made three or four for my daughter.
