Yes, I have been in all fifty states along with my husband and two daughters.
Amazingly, we used road trips to get through the first forty-eight states.
I have family in Pennsylvania, so each time we camped our way from Washington State to the East Coast, we would take a different route.
We did all this traveling before nineteen ninety, and we had to use actual maps and a pop-up tent.
No electrical hookup for us.
My husband taught Jack London's book, Call of the Wild, and he wanted to see his life in Alaska.
So we loaded up our children, tent, and supplies in our Volvo sedan and drove the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks.
The glitch was that I was afraid to fly, but I didn't.
And this time we didn't have to camp.
And we are still traveling as a family.
I am so close to getting fifty states.
What I think is interesting in my crossing is eleven times on a Greyhound bus.
Eleven times crossing the United States on a Greyhound bus.
It started, my first time was in nineteen seventy-seven in the winter.
And I got to Pittsburgh and there was a snowstorm and I couldn't get past Pittsburgh at that time, but eventually did and made it to the West Coast.
Lots of interesting times.
The one that really stands out was when we had a quarter pound of marijuana on our way to New Orleans in our big Buick Wildcat.
Three of us, old high school friends, were on our way to San Diego, but we were going to go to Mardi Gras.
But we were detained in Canton, Mississippi through a time of getting out and peeing on the freeway.
We ended up in jail and our friend ended up driving around looking for the judge and signing over all of our traveler's checks while the quarter pound of dope was still in the trunk, never to be found by anyone in the police department in Mississippi.
