It happens that way.

Well, tell me about some of the businesses that you're working with, the small independents that are in your area.

Well, Surrey is made up of, there's over a hundred languages being spoken in Surrey.

It's very multicultural.

So one of the things that I'm very interested in myself is food and culinary.

So we created and developed what we call a spice trail, and it's all to showcase multicultural dining in Surrey.

So you can travel the world.

Eating in Surrey with the different restaurants that are owned by chefs or owner-operators, and that was the goal if we had a space trail, is actually anchored on South Asian or Indian food, but then it has Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Pakistani, Afghani, you name it, what we have here.

African foods.

So it's a variety, but it's working with these owners and just understanding that they don't have the big budgets.

It's like, but they need to get their names out and they need to showcase what they have.

Because I think personally, food is a showcase to their culture and their hospitality and the people.

It's a sharing culture through dining.

That's absolutely true.

Is there one story in particular that you can think of really puts a smile on your face with the people you work with and helping to showcase their local culture?

For me, I like Guacamole Mexican Grill.

They're owned by Marvin and Rosa.

They're a husband and wife couple.

And when we first started working with them, they were in this tiny little space.

Like you basically, if you stood there, you could touch the sink, the stove.

The kitchen was just tiny.

And now they've moved into a much larger restaurant.

They're doing really well.

Her mother still makes the pupusas, which is lovely to see her.

And if she's not making the pupusas, nobody wants to eat the pupusas because they don't taste the same.
