This is the segment of the show that my co-host and I, we talk about a news story that has caught our eye over the last week or two, and we discuss.

Um, my news item is kind of a follow-up to something I've talked about the last two episodes.

Uh, so in last week's episode, episode 54, Eric, uh, it was you, you were on that episode as well too.

You and I talked about how, um, there is some anti-open source-ish talk amongst, uh, you know, AI company leadership.

Uh, I made sure in last week's show notes I went through and I actually cited everything that we talked about with precise URLs and everything, so you can actually go see who actually said what.

Again, we were kinda going off memory last week, but the overall message last week was accurate.

Now, fast-forward to this week, um, right? Uh, last week you had, uh, OpenAI, Anthropic leadership basically saying, "Hey, um, open source is, is dangerous." One of them said there was AI communism, and, uh, you know, right? A whole bunch of different, like, eyebrow-raising things about open source models, open weight models.

There was a coalition of 25, I believe it was, um, 25 companies who all signed, uh, a, uh, a letter to the, uh, current, uh, U.S. administration here, the Trump administration, um, basically saying, "Hey, um, we need open source and open weight models, uh, because..." And I've got a couple of quotes here in the article, and I'll put this in the show notes.

Uh, the two big names quoted in the article are Satya Nadella and, uh, I always...

And so, uh, where is it here? Nadella wrote on X, "Open weight models are essential to a healthy AI ecosystem." And where was the other quote? A bunch of ads.
