The Big Tech backlash in schools

And before we go into our trio of local news stories, we have some breaking news at City Hall.

And so we want to go right to WHYY's Tom McDonald, who is on the scene.

What's going on? What is happening?

We were almost two hours into city council's first weekly meeting after the summer recess when the council president went to the podium and asked for the building to be evacuated.

Sorry about all the sirens behind us, but they are bomb techs.

We have been told that two dogs alerted on a device that is suspicious in the council caucus room right across from city council chambers.

according to Vince Thompson, who's the spokesman for the council president.

Someone left a package in the caucus room.

Bomb-sniffing dogs detected a hit on the package.

So as a precaution, the sheriff's office and the police department have asked us to evacuate the building.

What we have also learned is that a former city council employee was removed from the building in handcuffs before the evacuation was ordered.

At this point, there are explosive crews going into the building.

Everybody is outside the building within a safe distance.
