Jessie has spent the last two decades hunting fish and exploring the ocean across the world. From living aboard a boat and travelling between countries, to chasing dogtooth, filming underwater and…
Have you got a memorable fish that you've caught in your very long career in spearfishing?
That was the whole dream of buying Papaw was to go and shoot a huge dog-toothed tuna in the Coral Sea.
and we lived in the pacific for a couple of years chase always chasing dogtooth tuna and it was just that one fish that i love like they can be really hard to chase it can be hard to predict when they're on and obviously then the fight like shooting it's almost the easy part, then fighting it is, yeah, just you would lose so many to sharks or get caught up on the reef or anything.
So that big dog tooth that I shot in the Coral Sea, that was just the pinnacle for me because everything came together, the timing, the weather, the location, the boat.
And just having those two fish on the back of the boat, yeah, can't describe it.
Literally, I think that was the moment I turned around to Michael and I said, should we sell the boat now? Yeah.
But after that, we were sort of a bit like, oh, you know, we probably should have sold the boat that season.
fantastic and so if you were like i mean you've put a lot of time and effort into getting that fish um what did you have to do to like prepare to get it like did you have to use different floats is there different techniques to get them like we don't have those here um in our cold waters but if someone were to come to australia with the idea of getting one um Yeah, what are some hot tips for
them? Yeah, definitely like a static line, like the right float line, so no bungee from the gun.
no bungee.
So we'll run that hard line, the static line, up to the first float and then we'll put a bungee between the two or three atmospheres on the surface so then they'll stretch a bit.
