From Scientist to CEO

OK,

well, we're going to talk a little bit more about your career progression.

But looking back, because you're the CEO now, looking back, what prepared you for the CEO role that perhaps wasn't obvious to you at the time?

I mean, I think my journey at 4BaseBio is a rather unique one.

I was very fortunate to be amongst the first employees here when the company was established in 2020.

And so along the way, I have worn multiple different hats.

I think my first title was something like Head of Discovery.

I've got

you down as Head of Discovery.

Was I right?

So Head of Discovery.

What did that mean in a company with no employees? It didn't mean much.

It was just a nice title.

And I was like, oh yeah, okay.

That one sounds really cool.

I can discover things.

Right.

And actually as the company evolved and our technology evolved, I evolved with it.

And that ultimately led to a really lovely blend between kind of commercial and also operations.

So the hat that I wore prior to being appointed as CEO was chief operating officer.

And I think that was simply because I was so heavily involved with the day-to-day operations of the company.

Candidly, there were much better chief operating officers on the market that have a wealth and decades and decades of experience in building companies, but it was sort of this happy accident.

And throughout my entire career progression in 4Base, I was incredibly lucky to be exposed to all facets of the business, including all of the corporate development side of things and certainly all of the kind of commercial building.

So I think that led me to be a very well-rounded person when this opportunity ultimately arose.
