Serenity Now, Bourbon Later - A Seinfeld and Whiskey Podcast
Oct 7, 2026 · 31 min · 12 segments
A deceptively weird Seinfeld episode gets even better when you catch the details everyone else misses - from a hidden Cyrano de Bergerac reference to a bottle proof that secretly spells Veterans Day…
But, uh, yeah, season eight, episode two.
This one I chose for a specific reason.
This was a little personal.
I'm gonna be getting the snip myself here, uh, here pretty soon, in a couple weeks.
And I always think back on this one, and of course, we're gonna get to it later, but Kramer shuffling out of the back with his hook.
[laughs]
And as, as much as I, I'm not a scaredy-cat about anything, this one has always bothered me a little bit.
So this was almost like a little therapy for me to go back and watch this and them, the, with the vasectomies and stuff.
So picked that one out for a little personal reason, but, uh, you know, it kind of relates to my real-life situation that's coming up, which I mean-
Yeah
... it's about time, right? It's about time.
But, uh, in the beginning, we open up, and of course, we kind of lost the Jerry, the comedy bits, right? They're, they're done.
Mm-hmm.
Towards the end, they just stopped doing them.
They didn't really have any reason to anymore.
You know, it just kind of the show, you know, that was sort of the beginning idea of the show, right? It was supposed to be how a comedian gets his material, and that's how they pitched it to NBC, and we're just kind of past that, so they just sort of dropped those.
He's just like, you know.
Yeah.
And, uh, so they have that whole conversation.
The one thing I caught this time that I hadn't caught before is they talk about prison, like glorifying prison, and Jerry says, "Well, maybe someday." Do you think, do you think at this point they knew that the show was gonna end with them in prison? Do you think they already knew that?
Ooh.
And that was sort of like, that was sort of like a call forward to what was gonna occur, because it makes it seem like that, like maybe someday, right? Did you catch that?
That's a...
No, that's a really good point because, I mean, even like they allude to it, uh, in the beginning of, of things, then they come back to it at the end.
