Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. What is time? We all experience it, organise our lives around it, and watch it pass…
For years, I worked in the film industry behind the camera as a cameraman, a director, a producer, and maybe most notably as an editor.
And I think it'll help to make this whole question about time a little bit more relatable.
So if you can imagine a film reel in its physical form, which is just a long strip of thousands of still photographs, frame after frame after frame.
Now, if you run that strip of frames through a projector at 24 frames per second, the magic of cinema begins to unfold and something really remarkable happens.
What creates the sense of movement, the sense of a story unfolding through time are additional elements added on top.
A mind that remembers the last moment in the film while looking at this moment in the film and that expects the next one before it's even arrived.
Without that remembering and anticipating, you wouldn't experience a film at all.
