It feels like twilight or just before dawn and the light is almost extinguished.

Reading this passage the first time I did it was almost like the experience or what I imagined the experience of almost drowning feels like.

The water's pressing in on all sides and suddenly unexpectedly for a moment, you gasp

No matter who you are in this room or you online, listen very carefully to what's about to be said.

And the question that God is going to pose to us is, which end do you want? Will you remain hardened brown shaker? Or are you willing to let someone from the outside restore what's been lost? It's so obvious to me, at least in part why many of us don't read or pray or spend time in certain parts of God's word.

But I actually have discovered the longer I've walked with God through Christ that It's the more boring parts and the scary parts and the confusing parts of the Bible where my faith deepens, my faith expands, my faith moves from dumb churchy sayings and oversimplified social posts and 20 second sound bites to something more robust and deep and real.

We need a very authentic Christian faith In this highly complex, globalized, multicultural, pluralistic, divided world.

And so for this second last week, we gather again and I remind you that as St. Paul taught us, all scripture is God's breath.

And all scripture is useful to correct us, teach us, rebuke us, and build us up in our most holy faith.

Now before we walk into the place where innocence is removed and justice vanishes and into the cold night where the screams never seem to end and purpose is lost, I need to remind all of us why all this has happened.
