Now, our first case is a listener-suggested case.

The details of the death of twenty-year-old Ethan Vernon just don't add up for most people.

And although nothing new has happened around the case in the last couple of months, I was intrigued when the listener sent in the suggestion, and so I'm glad it was suggested, and I think we should look at it.

So let's look back.

We have to head to December of last year in Meigs County, Ohio.

And this is kind of rural Ohio, right on the border of Ohio and West Virginia.

The entire county has a population of just over twenty thousand people, which means this is a relatively safe area, not very much crime, and lots of people very familiar with their neighbors.

So what do those neighbors have to say about Ethan Vernon? Well, he was a high school grad who loved to work with his hands.

He had trained and become a skilled mechanic and was known to be a young man who could fix just about anything.

Friends and family said he was funny, respectful, easygoing, and above all, kindhearted.

And true to Middle America, he loved to be outdoors.

Although he was about to turn twenty-one, Ethan had a great relationship with his parents, and he continued to live with his mom and dad and his younger siblings.

Now, this young adult didn't have, quote, unquote, "issues." He was really pretty drama-free, and that included his three-year-long relationship with his girlfriend, Sarah Hanning.

On December eleventh of last year, Ethan was doing exactly what you would expect this young man to do by the description that I have supplied.

He had worked all day, just like normal, and then he left to go see his girlfriend, Sarah, who reportedly lived in Athens, Ohio.

Now, that's about twenty-five to thirty minutes away from where Ethan lived at the time.

And he is also almost twenty-one years old, so his mother wasn't watching his every move.

Now, he was expected to be home that night.

So when he didn't return, his parents started looking for him because it just really wasn't like Ethan to not show up when he said he would be somewhere.

Now, his parents started calling around to hospitals and then to friends' homes, but they came up empty-handed.

No one seemed to know where Ethan was.

By the next morning, what was being told to Glenna, that's Ethan's mom, was some unverified reports of a truck burning in the Hemlock Grove area of Meigs County.

She later said her mama heart was fearing the worst, as it should have been, because the unverified reports ended up being true.

A truck matching the description of Ethan's truck was found burning twelve miles from Sarah's house.

But it wasn't twelve miles directly toward Ethan's house.
