Meigs County

most of my career was on the border counties.

I worked a lot of the Ohio River, border of Meigs County, which all the big deer in Ohio has got some big deer in Meigs County.

So I knew the officers across in Ohio, and if we had something going on, we would work together.

But I worked at border counties for a lot of years.

Overnight storms brought flash flooding to parts of southeast and south-central Ohio.

Gallia, Jackson, Meigs, and Vinton counties saw as much as 4.5 inches of rain, with Gallipolis, Rio Grande, Gallia, Adamsville, Gage, and Centerpoint getting hit the worst.

In South Central Ohio, Adams, Highland, Pike and Ross counties experience much of the same with Bainbridge, Hillsboro, Waverly, Piketon and West Union being impacted the most.

Flooding is threatening both town centers and valleys there.

I think it was pretty concentrated in certain areas.

I know like Meigs County got hit and some of Vinton County and a little bit of Jackson.

But yeah, mainly that southern stuff.

But they got some good ones down there.

So our record was in 2024 at like 2000 deer and then 2025 we had almost 10,000 reports across the state.

Probably half of them or a little more than half of those reports came out of four counties, Athens, Meigs, Washington, and Morgan.

So it was a very significant mortality event there in that part of the state.

Lots of deer did succumb to hemorrhagic disease.

So...

We looked at antibodies this past fall.

So we were able to collect about 60 hunter harvested deer in that general vicinity of hemorrhagic disease outbreak in the counties of Athens, Meigs, Morgan, Washington, extreme southeast Ohio there.

Over 50% of those deer that were harvested actually did have antibodies to hemorrhagic disease.

Christina, 68, is the defendant currently asking Judge Lena Featherolf Rogers to release her from jail, citing her age, serious health problems, and no prior criminal record.

Lisa Carroll runs God's Hands at Work, a nonprofit serving Gallia, Jackson, Mason, Meigs, and Vinton counties.

she told 10TV that Christina came into the center roughly 17 times over the last four years while Gary Sider's senior waited outside in the car.

Lisa described her as not very forthcoming, though never unkind, and said she never once saw any of the children.
