We are one week away from the beginning of preseason! Stape and Chels break down Chris Kreider to MTL and provide in-depth overall season preview and predictions for the upcoming NYR season. One stop…
... and also you were doing victory laps on Twitter from every Habs fan that was calling you all sorts of names-
Your initial thoughts on Kreider to Montreal before we get into everything else.
Uh, I, I posted a story on, on Twitter from... that kind of was the thing that was in my head and, and, you know, I, I have a lot of contacts with people that have been in the Rangers organization for a long time, a lot of people that aren't there anymore.
And so y- I can't say I had inside information, but knowing Kreider a little bit through a lot of these people and through conversations with Chris over the years, you know, he is a guy that, that keeps his private life very private [smacks lips] and likes to do things behind the scenes.
But I think one of the most public things that he did towards the end of his Rangers tenure, kind of during that [clears throat] period of tumult, I guess you could call it, before he ended up being traded, uh, was Jim Ramsey, who had been the Rangers trainer for 30 years before he was let go ahead of the, the, uh, '23, '24 season.
Um, [smacks lips] and Jim Ramsey was not acknowledged, uh, uh, inside the Garden, and not a we- no welcome back for a guy who worked there for 30 years.
I think if you were watching at home, I don't think they showed him on camera, which is tough to do 'cause they probably showed Marty St. Louis an awful lot 'cause he's b- they're both behind the, the Canadiens bench.
So at the end of the game, Chris Kreider, I think as everyone remembers as a Ranger fan, would stand by that door leading off the ice, [clears throat] make sure he acknowledged everybody.
[smacks lips] That night as he did it, he turned-- you could see him kind of pointing and whispering in guys' ears and making sure that everyone, even guys that maybe hadn't been Rangers when Jim Ramsey was here, went over and acknowledged him in the middle of the Garden ice.
Uh, and then when that was done, Chris went over and embraced Rammer, uh, a long time in full view of everybody.
And as I mentioned, Chris Kreider had a hat-trick that night and wasn't seen in the post-game locker room, and there was plenty of speculation as to why.
Seemed to putting two and two together that he was not happy that, that Ramsey was not acknowledged, and I think come to find out later on that that was probably the case.
