These two guys have a longstanding relationship, and Sturm didn't have a lot of say last season in his coaching staff.

He was kinda bequeathed, uh, Chris Kelly, uh, Jay Leach as assistants.

Steve Spott came in as well to help with the power play.

Now, with Leach gone, Kelly's still around, but Sturm was able to handpick a guy who he's worked with, who's worked with Paterka, uh, familiar with kind of guys from all over the place, young players, working with European players.

You know, success at the AHL level doesn't usually come with a lot of first and second year pros.

So you have to kind of look past the results and the box score to see what they're doing.

And I think one of the kind of the under-discussed good things of the summer was Jay Leach coming into the organization as a Hartford coach.

This is a guy who was a finalist for a lot of NHL coaching jobs, particularly the one in Seattle.

Not great in the defensive zone.

It wasn't great under Jay Leach, and the high danger looks were way too high.

The biggest difference between two years ago and this past year was that Swayman and Corposalo were making the safes at high danger.

And a year ago, the year before, rather, they weren't.

However, I do think everything is starting to look up a little bit, uh, for the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Jay Leach is now the Wol- the Wolf Pack coach.

He's got a previous history of Mike Sullivan.

I do think that's one of the more, uh, sneaky, under-the-radar good moves that the Rangers have made this past season.

You know, all of that.

It's kind of like how I hated them marrying Jay Leach to him.

And it's kind of like, well, let him build his own staff versus inheriting a bunch of guys because that was the point of contention with Jim Montgomery.

But anyway, bringing it back to what you're saying, I do like that idea a year ago.

... because I'm a, I'm a huge believer on, in this, is the addition of Matt McIlvain taking over from Jay Leach as the defensive coach is going to make a difference.

I, I think McIlvain lets players play to their strengths.

Leach does not.
