So we're going to start right there.
Mike HalfordHOST
18:07
On Wednesday, Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin said that he has not spoken with representatives of pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Quinn Hughes, quote unquote, In a long time, he then went on to say that he can't really do anything in this situation and punctuated with, what am I going to do? Say, please, please, please, the full quote right here, and I'll read it.
Mike HalfordHOST
18:32
I'll do the Garen thing, okay? Okay.
Mike HalfordHOST
18:35
This was on the Chad Hartman show.
Mike HalfordHOST
20:38
Anyway.
Mike HalfordHOST
20:41
The fact that Garen got asked about this is not surprising.
Mike HalfordHOST
20:43
The fact that he took the tack that he did is like he had to know going into that interview that he was going to be asked about Quinn Hughes' future because three days ago, Quinn Hughes spoke about his future and spoke about it in a way that made you suggest that there was still something going on.
Mike HalfordHOST
20:57
And then Garen came forth and said, we haven't talked about anything in a long time.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
11:58
So we'll kind of wait on that to see if we get something before the end of the show.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
12:02
Here's what Bill Guerin had to say when asked about Quinn Hughes yesterday.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
12:05
Well, there's nothing to talk about right now.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
12:08
What am I going to do? Say, please, please, please.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
12:32
I think some people want to make this more complicated than it really is being the media.
Tyler YaremchukHOST
12:36
And it's not that complicated.
Carter HuttonHOST
12:39
Well, I think expectations in Minnesota are so different now, right? Like I think there's other teams that can sit and wait and hope that there's a better situation to come, but like they're in a situation now where you have to win and you're in this window and Quinn Hughes, because what you gave up to get them, that's the biggest question mark now.
Carter HuttonHOST
12:54
And then the other side of it is like, you're sitting here and it feels like, as you see New Jersey start to collect Connor Hellebach and he has his two brothers and the writing feels like it's on the wall.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:15
I'd like to start in Minnesota with Bill Guerin, who did a radio hit on Minnesota Radio, the Chad Hartman Show on WCCO in Minnesota.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:24
And he was asked a couple questions about Quinn Hughes.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:28
We've talked about him a little bit on this show and the fact that he's a pending UFA.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:32
And there's still no extension in place.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:35
Some quotes that have gone around from that interview on Minnesota radio.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:40
There's one that sticks in my head right now pertaining to Quinn Hughes from Bill Guerin.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:46
And I understand this might be part of what he was saying.
Julian McKenzieHOST
1:48
There's nothing to talk about right now.
Shaun StarrHOST
22:32
Exactly.
Marco D'AmicoHOST
22:33
Depending on, you know, let's see if they keep Quinn Hughes here, but...
Marco D'AmicoHOST
22:37
That's a pretty strong top four, but you also have to figure out that they're missing John Marino, right? When John Marino comes back, the top four becomes Sergeyev, Uyghur.
Marco D'AmicoHOST
22:46
Right now it's Schmidt.
Nick AlbergaHOST
30:20
I just want to give a shout-out to my pickup of the season, Joel Erickson-Eck.
Nick AlbergaHOST
30:23
Minnesota's a one-line team, and guys, we are going to have some conversations about Quinn Hughes over the next couple months on this podcast, so buckle up for that.
Nick AlbergaHOST
30:31
But Jake, for now, we buckle up for Monday, week six, waiver wire edition of the podcast coming up.
Jake HahnHOST
30:37
Can't wait.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
1:49
So does it happen today? I hope so, because it would give us a lot to talk about on Friday and heading into the weekend.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
1:55
And if I'm to guess, boys, is it Minnesota? Is Billy G finally going to make a play for Dylan Larkin, try to keep Quinn Hughes around long-term, which I still don't think might work, but...
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
2:06
I'd love to see Larkin end up in Minnesota today, so hopefully it happens.
SeanHOST
2:09
Do you think there's a wildcard team in there, a.k.a. the New Jersey Devils, that would be willing to take a swing at Dylan Larkin?
Tom GazzolaHOST
4:11
What do you make of these Team USA guys, basically, just kind of picking where they want to play and dictating it, even though they have contracts with term left on them? What do you make of that?
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
4:23
Well, a little entitled.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
4:25
It's kind of ridiculous that it's got to this point, but i guess that's what happens when you end up winning a gold medal and obviously all that goes to their head but like you just look at it all kind of starting with brady kachuk actually it might have even started before that but like brady virtually got to pick his spot uh go on to florida with his brother and obviously quinn hughes now potentially going somewhere else like well a lot of it too is like players going out of canadian markets and into american markets and wanting to win but like you just hear what Dylan Larkin said it was probably under a year ago maybe a year ago like just saying he wants to win in Detroit he wants to be the guy that leads the Detroit Red Wings to a Stanley Cup I almost don't blame Larkin but other players I kind of don't understand it especially with a Hellebuck and a Brady Kacok in Canadian destinations but like with Larkin like Might have stuck it out there if I was with him.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
5:14
But he won a gold medal.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
14:10
But my first blush is, I guess maybe it's not a trade today, but they're probably just keeping him out of the lineup.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
14:16
to protect their asset dylan larkins wanted to trade for how long now and still weird watching him play hockey for the wings without the t on his chest so does it happen today i hope so because it would give us a lot to talk about on friday and heading into the weekend and if i'm to guess boys like is it minnesota like is billy g finally going to make a play for dylan larkin try to keep quinn hughes around long term which i still don't think might work but um i'd love i'd love to see larkin end up in minnesota today so hopefully it happens
Sean BellHOST
14:43
Do you think there's a wildcard team in there, a.k.a. the New Jersey Devils, that would be willing to take a swing at Dylan Larkin?
Tom GazzolaHOST
14:50
Look at you.
Tom GazzolaHOST
16:45
What do you make of these Team USA guys, basically, just kind of picking where they want to play and dictating it, even though they have contracts with term left on them? What do you make of that?
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
16:57
Well, a little entitled.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
16:59
It's kind of ridiculous that it's got to this point, but i guess that's what happens when you end up winning a gold medal and obviously all that goes to their head but like you just look at it all kind of starting with brady kachuk actually it might have even started before that but like brady virtually got to pick his spot uh go on to florida with his brother and obviously quinn hughes now potentially going somewhere else like well a lot of it too is like players going out of canadian markets and into american markets and wanting to win but like You just hear what Dylan Larkin said.
Tyler MadaraszGUEST
17:30
It was probably under a year ago, maybe a year ago, like, just saying he wants to win in Detroit, he wants to be the guy that leads the Detroit Red Wings to a Stanley Cup.
Sean CampbellHOST
39:32
Number four on the list.
Sean CampbellHOST
39:32
Give me Quinn Hughes.
Mitch GalloHOST
39:34
Yeah, Quinn Hughes.
Mitch GalloHOST
39:36
Yeah.
Sean CampbellHOST
39:36
Mitch Gallo.
Hockey PrincessHOST
6:40
Uh, but we had another, uh.
Hockey PrincessHOST
6:45
should I say reunion, uh, between Quinn Hughes and the city of Vancouver, which a lot of people hyped up after the Brady game saying, Oh, this is going to be as bad as the Brady game.
Hockey PrincessHOST
6:59
I'm going to be honest.
Hockey PrincessHOST
7:00
I didn't think so just because I see the Quinn situation and Brady and Hellebuck, which we'll get into in a second and Larkin to be very different.
Hockey PrincessHOST
8:59
It's all very interesting.
Hockey PrincessHOST
9:01
We still don't know what he's going to do.
Hockey PrincessHOST
9:04
Some are saying because Connor Hellebuck was traded to the New Jersey Devils, this means automatically Quinn Hughes is going.
Hockey PrincessHOST
9:13
I'm not believing that 100% yet.
Ryan HanaGUEST
37:52
And I don't think the Red Wings have an offer out there that wows them yet.
Ryan HanaGUEST
37:57
If you remember the Minnesota offer for Quinn Hughes that landed them Quinn, that was a wow offer.
Ryan HanaGUEST
38:02
I think they're waiting for that.
Ryan HanaGUEST
38:03
and and if you made me guess i'm like this isn't based on any information but if you made me guess dylan larkin's already expanded his list a couple times i think there's teams out there like montreal especially where the red wings really like the offers that are hypothetically on the table and i i would bet that it's one of the teams that's not on the 10 team list it just takes one or two more you know expansions of that list by larkin to get it done but Yeah, Lomis, I think he's on his way out, man, as much as it pains a lot of people to say.
