Proto-Future 20: How to model Modern Transit, Part 3: FLIRTing with Layout Design

This is episode 20, How to Model Modern Transit Part 3, Flirting with Layout Design.

In this episode, I'll discuss track planning and operations for modern transit on layouts small, medium, and large.

I was originally going to cap this series at two episodes, one prototype-facing and one model-facing, but I think there's more to be said on the model front.

This will likely be the shortest episode of the three, but I think it's important to take all the many individual ideas I've discussed thus far and have a conclusion-style episode where I discuss not only what these look like on layouts, but what layout design and operations look like when integrated with modern transit.

As a reminder, the scope of modern transit as I'm defining it involves bottom-to-top, walking, bicycling, streetcars, trams oder Straßenbahnen, light rail, Stadtbahnen, tram trains, DMUs, S-Bahnen, intercity trains, night trains, high ER speed rail, and HSR, with buses and Amtrak long-distance trains thrown in for good measure.

Some of my comments here may sound very similar as in the previous episode, but I'll hopefully expand especially on the more modeling and operations-relevant topics in concrete ways that help to explain layout design for this new and exciting medium.
