Meet Conrado Pascual: Podhalla's New Co-Host on His Basketball Journey & Path to Covering the Valkyries

Hey, LWG here for Pot Holla.

Don't worry, I won't be doing a preamble on every podcast.

I just wanted to mention specifically one thing, which is this episode is where you get to know Conrado a little bit, our third host here on this show.

And he and I talked about our love for Warriors basketball, and we mentioned the name Don Nelson.

Now, as of Sunday, August 9th, word came down from his family that he passed away at the age of 86.

When Conrado and I did the interview a couple of days ago, he had not passed away yet.

So we didn't know.

We didn't know he was sick or anything was going to happen.

We were just talking about him casually as part of our childhood fandom basketball.

So I just wanted to mention that.

That, at the top, wish the family and friends of Don Nelson the best as they deal with the grief of him passing.

And, you know, Nellie's a big part of my basketball fandom.

The run TMC timeframe where he takes over from George Carl, they draft Tim Hardaway.

Tim Hardaway's drafted because they can't stop Kevin Johnson.

It was, you know, I don't know if it's my favorite time as a Warriors fan because obviously the Steph and Draymond and KD and Klay teams are just so fantastic.

But, you know, really like my first introduction to like, oh my gosh, like the Warriors, this might be a thing.

There's people at school who, you know, don't really follow hoops that much.

They're talking about the Warriors.

And, you know, Nelly was a big part of that.

I would wake up in the morning My radio alarm set to KMBR, the Frank and Mike show in the morning, and Don Nelson was a guest a couple times a week, I think, and they would just talk to him for 10 minutes.

He just has a radio spot, so I would get to hear him, an interesting dude, not afraid to...

I guess, cross the lines, I would say.

Some of those shows, he would say things that, you know, kind of innuendo-ish.

And then, of course, just him taking that team and doing the different creative things that he did with the offense, which Conrado and I do talk about, by the way.

And then when he comes back for the, we believe...

And then kind of power plays Chris Mullen out of his spot, which, you know, that's the part that you kind of have to talk about, but... maybe not my fondest memory of the Don Nelson timeframe.

And then, yeah, and then, you know, he had career elsewhere, Dallas and New York, but I think he's most fondly remembered, even though he was an NBA champion with the Celtics, he's most fondly remembered as the Warriors head coach and general manager.

So shout out to Don Nelson, RIP Don Nelson.

Very, very, very, very important basketball person in my fandom.
