NBA G League

It's now getting going, but for 20 years it was a loser.

We started the G League, and it's been successful as a development thing, but it loses money.

The Basketball Africa League, which, uh, this, you know, was the NBA poured a lot of money into over the last decade, it's a money loser." Um, he's like, he's like, [chuckles] "Maybe we shouldn't start another league that, you know, that may be a money loser." But he said that as he studied it over the last year, he's come around on it, um, and now is a full supporter of it and, you know, knows that it's not gonna work in, um, the first year, but talks about it over a 15 or 20 year time window.

And so one of the f- f- you know, for example, in f- for American fans to sort of understand, I offer up LAFC.

I had three different people sitting next to me, all immensely talented people, very, very good at their jobs, very good at what they do.

As a matter of fact, the third of those three is my broadcast partner with the Grand Rapids Gold of the NBA G League.

So we were able to reunite.

And that's been one of the really fun byproducts of the last couple of years that I'm so, so happy about.

You're going to give us some great looks and you expect to get waved.

And then once you get waved, you know, since the 76ers had your rights, Basically, if you sign or if since the six of you was in camp with them and you signed the Exhibit 10, you get a bonus for playing for their G League team as opposed to going somewhere else.

I just don't feel like any of these guys right now.

And I know, you know, Jameer Nelson Jr. is a quality player.

So- The Zone will also carry some additional Grizzlies content, so you fans of the Grind City Media content.

Uh, there's gonna be some Memphis Hustle G League, select Memphis Hustle, uh, G League games on there, and even condensed Grizzlies games.

So if you're one of those people like my co-host, Joe Mulnet, he sees those late games, uh, when they're playing at 9:30 PM Central Time in Gold State, 10:30 Eastern.

Joe Mulnet ain't staying up to watch those games too many times.

Are they going to be allowed to play this year? I guess they are because we haven't heard much about them.

But, you know, to your point about sort of this guy played in a G League, but now he's coming back.

I mean, they took a pretty hard line with the NFL players saying these are pros.

I don't get why there's any sort of distinction with the NBA players, too.

Yeah.

So I'm actually going to be an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets G League team.

So everybody out there, just have one moment, and then you can coach D1.

That's how it works, right? So you go and you play overseas for a little bit, and then what were some of the factors as to why you decided to just be done? And as you know, the ball stops bouncing in certain ways as players for us, and we either stay with it in different ways and end up in the G League and all that dope stuff.

But how did you know it was your time to sort of move on.

And now it's just kind of thrown under the rug with no one to challenge it.

And Mike, we have not seen the end of these decisions because LSU has has basketball players on their roster, specifically R.J. Lewis, that spent an entire year in the NBA's G League, went through the NBA draft process.

I think he was involved in a trade.

I think the Utah Jazz traded him for the Celtics.

The UFL is huge.

The UFL is essentially becoming the G League for the NFL.

There are countless players that have been signed from UFL squads to the NFL.

Brandon Aubrey, great payday.
