Kingdom of God Series - The Awesome, Awful Fear of the Lord Niall Presland-White What does it really mean to fear the Lord? Far from being a call to live in terror, Scripture reveals the fear of the…

Proverbs 9 verse 10 says, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Proverbs 1 verse 7, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.

Ecclesiastes 12 verse 13, Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

And so how I have decided to start the series on such a topic is actually when we kicked off our generosity series a few weeks back, the speaker at the time mentioned something where he said, fear drives you away from God, faith draws you to God.

And when I heard those words, there was such an impression on my heart from the Holy Spirit that this is something that he wanted to talk about.

that this is something that he wanted me to dive into to learn to understand, what does the fear of the Lord actually mean? I've had many conversations leading up to today where I've bumped into people in town or just through random conversations where they ask you the typical questions.

How's your week going? What's new? When are you speaking next? And then what topic are you speaking on? And I mentioned the fear of the Lord.

And there's this kind of moment where they lean in and it's this intrigue to go, oh, interesting.

It's one of those topics that I think sometimes we put on the shelf because we don't really understand what it actually means.

But my mission this morning is to reveal the beauty and the awe of the fear of the Lord as a foundation for understanding the kingdom of God.

I think one of the enemy's strategies against the church is to focus on personal preferences due to cultural pressure and modern correctness.

And so things like the fear of the Lord don't really fit into that bucket.

And if the word of God is true, which it is, we know that, right? then if we want wisdom and knowledge and to fulfill the duty of a Christian while according to God's word, then this is where it starts.

So I've got a number of scriptures that actually highlight the beauty and awe.
