The punchline being government schools was never about reading, writing, arithmetic.

It was an intentional strategy to ideologically capture the kids of, in particular, Catholics.

In Detroit, 96% of students lack proficiency in math, 95% cannot even read, but they do know their demigenders.

Meanwhile, school budgets in both are almost half above the national average.

Now, it all sounds dire, but there is good news.

Meanwhile, parents are pulling out since COVID, the share of parents using private schools is up, while the share of homeschooling doubled, including homeschool co-ops that amount to the traditional one-room schoolhouse with parents calling the shots.
