And if I had a nickel for every time the Panthers beat the Hurricanes by scoring a game-winning goal with exactly 4.3 seconds left on the clock, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that that has happened twice.

yes i mean 64 minutes and uh i'm doing math 56 seconds and seven million seconds of shutout hockey is definitely a good way to get your career going and made some important saves.

Certainly he put on a good defensive performance, and coming into the season, goaltending is one of your number one worries.

He's not coming off of a strong season, certainly not one of his best seasons, considering he's had a haul of pretty good career, and he got it off to a good start.

While we're in this part of the episode, though, I do want to mention that It was a stifling defensive performance in basically all ways.

And that's another thing to definitely point out here is that while Markstrom played very well to get that shutout, it was not an all-world kind of performance that you're going to be watching YouTube montages of in six, seven years because that's just how memorable all of the world-class saves he made.

So do not misinterpret me when I say that he didn't have a whole lot to do because the Panthers just shut down the Hurricanes.

yes i i want to point out specifically uh i i disagree with you on one particular point that yes the panthers overall played a very strong defensive game especially at five on five markstrom's shutout coming with only 15 saves on 15 shots faced so it wasn't like a worldly 40 40 saves shut out oh my god i can't believe this happened but there were some defensive lapses specifically in special team scenarios where Markstrom came up absolutely huge.

What I do want to point out is that of those 15 saves that Markstrom made, according to natural stat trick, only five of them were at five on five.

The Panthers only allowed five shots on goal at five on five, which is just unbelievable.

The Hurricanes had a total of 16 shot attempts at 5-on-5, and only five of them actually made it to Markstrom, and none of them went in.

But Markstrom, when called upon, particularly there was the Sebastian Ajo shorthanded breakaway.

But the flurry that resulted from it, it is unbelievable that there wasn't a goal to come from that.

There was the lucky moment of Svechnikov whiffing on a one-timer where it looked like he had a mostly open net.
