There's probabilities in the works when they draw it.
There's been talks about fans being upset and thinking it's conspiracy theory, it's rigged, and, um, I mean, I know we've, we've made jokes about it being rigged.
I, at the end of the day, I don't think it is.
[laughs]
Um, and but, you know, we came down to the, the first and this, and the second overall pick in that year that we got Celebrini, and the amount of anxiety that I felt waiting for the balls to stop-
[laughs]
... floating around, waiting, you know, waiting for them to pull it, waiting for them to show the card with the logo, uh, yeah, the, it, it's indescribable.
I'd say maybe the closest anxiety related to sports I've felt that can match that is maybe when we're in the playoffs, and you're just holding on to, to every moment, hoping that you can stay ahead, hoping you can advance into the playoffs.
Um, so that's kind of how I felt when we were waiting for the first three players to get announced, uh, leading up to San Jose hav- having the opportunity.
And before that, I, I think...
I didn't really think it was a possibility-
Mm-hmm
... just given what we've seen from Layla.
Uh, I mean, we, we've heard, we heard about the roster for the Olympics prior to them taking the ice.
We heard, uh, you know, there's, there's a, there's a l- a great story behind her being the first Black woman to play for the, the US National Women's Team.
We're all about diversity and inclusion on, on this podcast.
Um, we know that she plays forward, uh, or had played forward for the University of Wisconsin, but she's a bit of a hybrid.
She can play up front.
She can play on defense, and she ended up being chosen for the national team, um, as a, as a def- a fender.
Mm-hmm.
Um, I had heard through the process of it that, um, given how talented, um, the selection was up front, I think they, the, the people involved in choosing the team, they, they really saw the potential to what she could, uh, bring to the team.
Um, and they had her play defense or said, "Hey, it, would you play defense for us to, um, be named to the team?" And she was involved in that tying goal late in the gold medal match, um, tipped in front by Knight.
And I made a joke after we selected her that Troy Ryan got, you know, getting, uh, front row seats to losing to the, to the US National Team, instantly put in this position where he can create the ideal team for himself.
Um, Layla falling to fourth overall, and, you know, it, it would be ridiculous for him to not choose her.
Um, but like I said, going into the draft, I didn't think it was possible.
