You know, the players are all amazing, but in terms of choice, you're gonna feel slighted if you should've gone third.

Well, if you think about it practically in terms of the first round of draft picks, Layla Edwards was picked fourth.

Mm.

If the Sirens had not had the expansion teams going ahead of them, they could have had a choice if they'd have been third or fourth.

And you talked about that Frozen Four event.

Um, we were talking earlier before this started too that I was also there, watched the games and, holy smokes, how good were they? I mean, Layla Edwards, Ava, Ava McNaughton in net.

Actually, those are two girls from right down the road from where I grew, grew up and, and live now.

I think we talked about it a little bit that there's, you know, lots of, lots of opinions flying and emotions flying around Abby Murphy and this being the choice.

And one of those things, and we'll, you know, I'm just going to say it out loud because everyone feels like, it was a done deal that we were going to get Layla Edwards.

And then that didn't happen.

And I think just because people's expectations weren't met it was a shifting of mentality about, you know, just the change of what everybody thought this year was going to be.

And so, you know, Abby has had a little bit of an uphill battle, honestly, because she was, she's fighting against the, you know, the Layla Edwards, you know, mindset that we were, the lot of us were, and we were in it too.

Like, I'm not going to lie.

We thought that too.

And obviously, there's other factors and things that are going on that make it difficult altogether.

I think another thing that's really cool, and this is local to us, obviously, but Layla Edwards, I'm from Ohio, right? Cleveland Heights girl.

I watched her play growing up.

And so not only do you have the accessibility, but as you said, you also have role models now for certain things.

So I do think, you know, as we continue to grow, it's not necessarily only saying it's not it's not affordable because it isn't.

And so there's got to be grants and programs and other things.

But when you see Layla Edwards score her first goal or be the shot that Ben is tipped for the go ahead goal for the gold medal game to go into OT, like that solidifies that it's not a black and white thing.

But the fact that we don't see more Black women prevalently in hockey is indicative to what the problem is, is it's not necessarily always been a safe space.
