Lyle McDonaldGuestVanessa SpinaHostI've been so excited to speak with you, and I have wanted to interview you for years on all of your wonderful research.

I, I'm down here, like we were talking about, down here in Austin and just waiting for the summer to break.
I'm so excited to speak to you about several of your books, or at least, you know, several in particular that I have read, but you have a new book out called Intermittent Modified Fasting.
I actually almost fell out of my chair when I saw the title because I have thought about this concept a lot.
Yours is totally different, so I, I can't wait for you to talk about why you called it this, what is this new approach, and what led you to develop it.
So what made you want to write Intermittent Modified Fasting, and how similar is it to protein-sparing modified fasting or intermittent fasting?

So, you know, way back, gosh, 2005 I wanna say, I wrote a book called The Rapid Fat Loss Handbook, which was basically...

I- it's, I can see behind you the PSMF Library, and the keto, I mean, I'm sure you know my first book was on ketogenic diets back in, good grief, 1998.

So, so long ago, and then I wrote it in 2005, and it was, I took the original protein-sparing modified fast, you know, it was developed back in the '70s, just an all-protein, very low-calorie diet, and then I modified it, mainly to make it more globally applicable, right? We know that the original diet was mainly for people with overweight and obesity.

I wanted to make it more appropriate for a variety of populations who were leaner or more active, and I mainly did that by scaling protein intakes up as people got leaner and were more active.

And I've been using that, and people have used that for, for decades, uh, for various processes.

But over the last at least five-plus years, and many people thrive on it, I'm sure you've gotten the same feedback.

Some people, once they get into that rhythm, and I mean, it's hard to argue with lots of lean protein and veggies in the diet, right? Like, I, I think that should, you know, be the, the base of any diet.
