The internet is being turned into a permissioned space, one gate at a time. Richard Paris and Alex unpack why mandatory digital IDs, age verification, cash limits, and outsourced censorship are not…
Well, the big
ones are this money laundering for terrorists and please think of the children are the two rappers that they have for, by the way, here's another door you have to ask permission to go through.
Exactly.
And I always find it very, very interesting that you are asked to do all these things.
And for some unknown reason, no matter how much effort you put into doing all these things, the criminals still get through.
The kids are still not protected.
And the money keeps getting laundered for some reason that none of us can explain.
But what we do notice is that our own lives... get more and more difficult.
We have more and more friction.
So maybe that's where we should start, Richard.
What do you think of that? Yeah, well, I think,
One is efficacy, right? Does this actually, is it even effective? Um, and I think, you know, that's obviously important because if it isn't effective, why the hell are we doing it? Right.
And it, it's an answer that's something, and if, if we know that it's not effective, then what's the real reason for doing it? So.
May I have a short interjection? Yes.
What we perceive as effective is effective for us as citizens.
Maybe it is affected from a different point of view, but that's not accessible to us.
That's the point I'm clumsily stumbling towards is if everybody knows it's not effective, why do they keep proposing it? What is the side effect that's actually the desired effect? And so we've talked already about this being dressed up as protecting kids or dressed up as anti-money laundering.
So we're giving ourselves away in terms of attitude toward what's really going on here.
And there's a bunch of vendors out there that have privacy tech or age verification tech, et cetera.
And the real thing to me, and I think this is one of those things, is it could come across as me being really hypocritical Um, because I'm also pushing something where I'm saying, you know, like I'm building something, spending my whole day building something where I'm saying, this is a, you know, this is designed to help you stay private.
This is designed to look, you know, protect you online and keep the internet open.
