Erin Carlisle NortonHostThere was usually some issue I was looking at, like a female identity or the issue of people being houseless, homeless, different social militarism, things that are all sadly very relevant still.
And I went up there and I spent a very hot summer lying on very hot gravel and making this piece.
And I just went up there every day and I made this... kind of duet with a Kentucky coffee tree, and I really embraced site-specific work.
Not all of my work is for alternative sites, but it completely changed my thinking.
Even when we make work in theaters, we're making site-specific work because the theater is a site.
What were you really compelled by? I'm curious if it was like the site and interacting with the objects as like a partner.
Was it what it brought up for you? Was it symbolic? Was it philosophical? Maybe all of the above.
