Cavan Sullivan's Historic Rise8:02 – 14:01

Robert KerrHost

8:02

[upbeat music] Looking at action on the field, the hottest national team player maybe, Gavin Sullivan, 16 years old, lighting up the MLS with consistent high level performances.

Robert KerrHost

8:31

Uh, six goals, five assists, and 23 appearances, and that doesn't even really begin to, uh, demonstrate what r- he's really been bringing to the Philadelphia Union.

Robert KerrHost

8:41

He's really taken that next step, and it's pretty amazing.

Robert KerrHost

8:44

And there is a national team camp in this new cycle right around the corner.

Robert KerrHost

8:48

Uh, what are your opinions there maybe?

Jason DavisHost

8:51

Well, let's...

Jason DavisHost

8:51

I don't wanna start with the national team.

Jason DavisHost

8:53

Let's just kind of contextualize what Gavin Sullivan-

Robert KerrHost

8:56

Okay

Jason DavisHost

8:56

... is doing at 16.

Robert KerrHost

8:58

Sure.

Jason DavisHost

8:58

And let's, let's acknowledge that it is impossible to talk about a teenage player, a teenage American player, making the professional jump and, and playing at all without invoking the name of one Freddy Adu.

Jason DavisHost

9:14

Now, there were teenage phenoms before Freddy Adu.

Jason DavisHost

9:17

I mean, Landon Donovan is, is one of those players, right? There were some teenage phenoms after Freddy Adu.

Jason DavisHost

9:24

I mean, l- let's give Eddie Gavin a shout.

Jason DavisHost

9:26

Let's give Michael Bradley, who was a teenage player with the New York Red Bulls when his dad was in charge of that club.

Jason DavisHost

9:32

I don't know, were they the MetroStars still at that point? I think they may, might have been the MetroStars.

Robert KerrHost

9:36

I think so.

Robert KerrHost

9:36

It was right around the f- that, that turn though.

Robert KerrHost

9:38

Right around that area.

Jason DavisHost

9:39

Yeah.

Jason DavisHost

9:40

I mean, we've had teenage players.

Jason DavisHost

9:42

But for whatever reason, whenever there's a, a, a sort of a top level attacking teenage player...

Jason DavisHost

9:47

And again, Donovan came good.

Jason DavisHost

9:49

I- i- if you're being fair to Donovan, he came good.
