In this episode of the Men Need Love Too podcast, Kat Anna sits down with John Mabry, a speaker, storyteller and creator of the Unsilenced Movement, to discuss grief, addiction recovery and breaking…
it's it's a beautiful story of many ups and downs and you were like literally at the top of the world for what would be like the top of the world for a lot of people to like not wanting or not being able to have a shower and i'm hearing your journey with silence and i'm hearing your journey with like accepting your own humanity
I die when I'm not being forced to grow, you know, forced to reach out for help and forced to pull people onto my, onto a team to help me get from where I'm at to where I want to go.
And I just, I think of, you know, little, little John named crash and this mentality that you are resilient and you are invincible and that you can get through anything.
And I felt like it kept you trapped and this perception that like you couldn't give your, like you weren't given permission to be human and to struggle and to you know to grieve like the things that you have lost i'm not so much
like talking about your brother i'm talking about your leg i'm talking about your medical um trauma and it's like and like the jobs but it's also like the loss of the person that you thought you were going to be dream expectations like there's so much grief around all of this the future that you wanted to have and And all of that.
And it's just like, you didn't have permission to do any of that and to feel any of that.
Like out of all of this, that's the part that breaks my heart is that you weren't allowed to feel your own humanity and all of that.
