Mary Live with Dr. Mark Miravalle: Her Sorrows Are Our Sorrows

My friends, in Jesus and Mary, as you know, every September 15th, the Church focuses, celebrates liturgically, the sorrows of Our Lady.

She is the mother of sorrows.

Seven swords would pierce her heart.

Seven ways to Truly, her meriting the title co-redemptrix, something, again, that Cardinal Fernandez says we can use with proper explanation, as the Church has always used, and I'm quite confident will continue to use even more strongly, more profoundly in the future.

But it begs the question, why? Why do we focus...

on the sufferings of the mother.

And there are several answers to this.

The first is because we love her.

And when you love someone, you have both empathy and compassion.

But far more than just our love of her, is what it does for us.

We need to focus on the seven sorrows of Our Lady.

We need that formation of our hearts.

You see, these seven sorrows shape our hearts to conform to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Look, imagine you have one image that you have to choose that conveys who you are.

You know, your motto image.

How many of you would put a big sword going through your heart? But that is the image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

That's how important her sorrows are, because they're co-redemptive.

She defines herself, and really, the Father defines her by her Immaculate Conception, but she is focused on the mission of Jesus.

And so, as she said to the mystic Bertha Petit, a Belgian mystic whose cause is up for canonization, My heart is immaculate because of what God did for me.

It is sorrowful because of what I did for him.

Now, here's the bottom line, my friends.

We all have sorrows, all of us.

It's not hard for us to, right now, in one minute, list the three major sorrows in our lives.

So our sorrows are always before us.

It's part of our earthly existence.
