Hawthorn's 100 years in the VFL/AFL - Know Your History with Shannon Gill and Ash Browne (01.05.25)

Shannon Gill, welcome.

Good morning, Gerard.

So we've got loose ends to tie up before we forge on with the centenary of Hawthorne celebrations.

The champions versus the rest from last week.

So I walked into the broadcast box on Thursday night and Lee Matthews was there straight away and he said...

I cannot remember these.

I was a footy mad kid and I cannot remember these games at all.

And to relive the history of them was absolutely illuminating.

Forget that.

The greatest is listening to know your history.

I mean, this is, this is a good sign.

Uh, we, so we had correspondence.

Yeah.

Magpie Greg was our, he had the record and he duly produced.

I had, um, Rhett Bartlett also sent some stuff through to me.

So yeah, A couple of things that we found from it.

So in the editorial of the record.

This is so good.

So the VFL president, Sir Kenneth Luke, goes on to talk about what a great occasion today will be with this.

And I'm referring to this as an all-star game now.

I think we can call this the first ever and maybe only ever all-star game that the VFL played.

He says, So...

This is something

that stays today.

That was the foreteller for the end of State of Origin.
