The Superlatives: "The Other Guys" Review + Breakdown | The Best Buddy Cop Movie Ever?

We went back and rewatched The Other Guys, the Adam McKay buddy cop comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as two deskbound detectives who stumble into the case of their careers while the real hotshot cops get all the glory. Over fifteen years later, we're checking if this one still holds up as one of the funniest entries in the genre. We're breaking down Ferrell's Allen Gamble and his bizarre, hilarious backstory reveals, Wahlberg's fantastic straight-man rage as Terry Hoitz, and why their mismatched chemistry might be one of the most underrated comedic pairings of the 2010s. We're also getting into the Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson cold open, the surprisingly sharp white-collar crime plot buried under all the absurdity, and that now-famous end credits sequence about corporate fraud that nobody saw coming in a comedy like this. Is this genuinely the best buddy cop comedy ever made, or does it live in the shadow of movies like 21 Jump Street and Rush Hour? We're giving our honest ranking. Let us know your pick for the best buddy cop movie of all time in the comments. 🔔 Subscribe for more rewatch reviews every week! * * * Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
