W- when we first talk about a buddy comedy in the beginning, Damon echoing, you know, l- learning something when I was 18 and learning something when I'm as old as I, 30 years later, um, immediately was like, "I've written buddy cops before, and buddy cops are just romantic comedies by other names." He's, he's, he's, like, that, that, and I was like, "Oh my God.

He's 100% right." Like, like-

Sounds like dollar store lanterns to me.

they're going to put him as he's been established.

They're going to get the right to say his name one time and in a certain instance and that's going to be it.

It's going to be a straight up focusing on the buddy cop trying to get you know, come to the bottom of who's the real clone while battling other evil clones who are mutating and killing people and doing whatever.

We're talking The Other Guys this week.

This is a buddy cop movie of buddy cop movies.

Uh, and I have not prepped you guys, but I think we need to talk about, like, pantheons of buddy cop movies.

Like, so h- here's some of my options, right? Obviously, I think The Other Guys has to be in there.

I think it's one of the best buddy cop movies.

And where are they? Are they still kicking? Where's the buddy cop moving? I don't know.

The last one I watched would have been, I guess, Wrecking Crew with Momoa and Batista, but that was a different animal kind of because they're so big.

Hauer and Simmons, I think, turn a very familiar procedural into a very durable relic from the 80s action era.

With Wanted Dead or Alive, New World Pictures had successfully combined a television western with a modern terrorist thriller, but for its next experiment, the company would combine a buddy cop movie with The Living Dead.

Now, by 1988, the buddy cop formula was everywhere, so New World Pictures did the most logical next thing.

They would kill one of the cops in the duo.

Dead Heat stars Treat Williams and Joe Piscopo as L.A. detectives Roger Mortis and Doug Bigelow, who, while investigating a series of robberies committed by criminals who appear impossible to kill, Mortis discovers a laboratory that's using advanced technology to reanimate the dead.

A real thinker type of a piece.

Buddy Cop slash mystery slash... a little bit of sci-fi, fantasy, comic book stuff.

It just felt like the nice mix of everything that should be there without being too heavy on any one thing.

It's a great way of using the medium to tell a story beyond capes and tights.

he wasn't enough to do that for me I irritated yes but didn't derail it I gave it a 7 because I had a lot of fun with it I actually enjoyed it it was a Friday night movie a Friday night film like I said midnight run Even a bit Lethal Weapon-y at times.

It had that old Buddy Cop style stuff.
