Setting Daniel’s Historical Scene3:17 – 7:18

3:17

So the name of this message is called The Purposed Heart, Faithful in the Fire.

3:27

Say it again, the purposed heart, faithful in the fire.

3:30

You know, there's many things about Daniel that we can focus on.

3:33

As a young man, he had great exploits.

3:35

If you read through Daniel, it's astonishing all the things that he endured, went through.

3:41

But we're gonna start at the very beginning because I don't believe the rest of the book makes sense without a real focus on chapter one.

3:47

You know, when you watch the beginning of the movie, if you watch the end, it might not make sense.

3:50

We need the beginning of things.

3:51

Daniel's story at the beginning is gonna set the stage for the entire book.

3:55

But deeper than that, I stood the whole first service.

3:57

I need God this one.

3:59

I need God this one.

3:59

I don't know if I can stand the whole time.

4:03

But deeper than that, I believe that Daniel's book is speaking a message to us today, that in the same way Daniel had to choose to be separate for him not only to survive, but to display his God, I believe God is calling us to make those same type of decisions.

4:22

Amen.

4:23

So Daniel, as a young man, is taken from Israel as a tribe of Judah.

4:28

Judah means praise.

4:29

And he's brought about six hundred miles to a place that he never asked to go because of the disobedience of people that came before him.

4:37

Anyone dealing with disobedience from somebody before you that now the repercussions are yours? That's Daniel's life.

4:46

The word from Jeremiah the prophet came that the Israelites, because of their disobeying God, would end up in a place that they didn't choose for 70 years, and then God would deliver them.

4:57

And prophet after prophet came after and said, "There's no way that's gonna happen.

5:01

The Lord didn't say that." But the Lord absolutely said it, and it happened as sure as he said.

5:09

And as time went on, you know, people just kept thinking the Lord's not gonna really do it, and then one day Babylon comes.

5:15

Babylon was slaying everything in its sight, and when it got to Israel it was no different.

5:20

King Nebuchadnezzar took the people, and as you see, it says he took all the treasures that were in the house of their God and brought it to their god.
