A brief content note: Job 3 is a particularly heavy chapter that touches on deep grief, death, and loss at birth. If you’ve experienced loss or have struggled deeply with depression, some of this…
So before getting into, again, like the big chapters I want to go over today, we're just going to do a little recap.
And then in an incredibly short period of time, he loses basically everything.
All of his wealth is gone.
His servants pass.
His children pass.
And then eventually his health goes.
And it's...
He... worshiped god and satan's whole thing like coming to god and asking god basically for permission to have these things happen to job is because he's like well of course job loves you of course job loves you because look at the life that you've given him So Satan challenges Job's faithfulness, essentially arguing with God.
Well, yeah, of course he loves you.
Look at the life you've given him.
Take it away and see what happens.
And that's important.
So this then sets up a major question for the book and for us as readers and as listeners just taking it in.
We asked ourselves at the end of last week's episode or two weeks ago, will I still believe God is good when my circumstances are not? Now, what happened, to be brief, too, because I don't want to go into too much detail.
I know it was somebody else's story, but I saw a tragic, tragic, horrible story on TikTok the other day of a mom talking about something terrible that happened.
And you could just tell, like, their situation.
It just...
I feel like you could just tell that they were already in a bad situation and then things just got worse.
Okay.
And someone commented, why would God allow this to happen? Or no, I think they said, why did God do this? See, this is why, you know, I don't believe if God is real, then like, why do these things happen? And I just had to keep scrolling through the comments because I was like, I'm not going to get, I'm not going to get into it.
I'm not going to respond, which actually, now that I think back on that and we're going to touch on this too.
