Our first story today comes from Andrea.
"Hi, ladies.
My name is Andrea.
I've always been interested in and a believer of all things supernatural and spooky, but like Natalie, have a skeptical science side as well that tries to rationalize.
[laughs]
"And I'm an amateur ghost hunter.
I apologize, this may end up being a long email, but if you'd like, you're welcome to share it on the pod.
The first experiences were during childhood, starting around age nine, when my mom was diagnosed with late stage cancer.
Her last couple of days were what sparked my interest in the afterlife, and also changed my faith in any god.
The last couple of days, she was in and out, not talking much or making sense when, uh, she did, being heavily medicated to make her as comfortable as possible.
Two very coherent things she said that day were that she loves me, as I said it to her, and, 'See you soon, Lizzie.' Lizzie is my mom's sister that passed away when she was 26 or 27.
My mom passed later that night at home around 3:00 AM." I'm so sorry for your loss, Andrea.
"Then my adolescent grieving brain decided to try contacting her by way of a Ouija board."
Mm.
"Cut to my brother, myself, and three of our neighborhood friends in our den circled around the board inside a circle of candles trying to reach her.
Since we were kids and this was pre-internet, we had no idea what we were doing.
We started with asking random questions.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened until I asked, 'Is Stella,' my mom's name, 'with us?'" At once, all the candles went out with no breeze having blown through the room, and we absolutely booked it out of the den, not properly saying goodbye, something I now know is a big no-no and believe probably started the rest of the events throughout my life and my potential attachment, sensitivity to spirits, et cetera.
Because of course, we did more Ouija board seances, as we called them, only a couple more times and without incident.
I thought nothing more of it until I started waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a shadow figure in my bedroom.
I was frozen in fear every time.
I didn't get a good feeling at all from this entity, especially the way it crouched in the corner, never moving.
