There is something so magical to me about sitting in a space that is specifically for queer people.

It doesn't have to be a queer bar, but it can be any space that is just for us.

There's a gay bar called Julius' down in the West Village, and anytime I'm there, I feel this deep, lovely, beautiful connection to history.

There's even an underground tunnel that they used to use to smuggle people out during police raids.

But these spaces are rare, and they're getting even rarer, which is why I wanted to bring on someone who has spent the last five years chronicling this firsthand, Rachel Karp, talking about her new book, "The Lesbian Bar Chronicles." Rachel is a writer and producer who has worked across podcasts, TV, film, theater, and digital media.

She holds a bachelor's degree in theater and English from Skidmore College, and she lives in Brooklyn with her wife, Jen, in their home that has lovingly been dubbed the Home for Wayward Gays by the multitude of queer friends and family members who have stayed there over the years.
