It's a nice little intimate gathering this morning.
And as we said, we've been busy in a series on the book of Jonah.
And I was chatting to someone just this past week and they said to me, are we still in Jonah? And I thought, still, we've only done four episodes.
And it made me think, isn't it amazing how quickly we'll get bored with five episodes of a book of the Bible, but we'll happily binge watch hundreds, even thousands of episodes of a series that we really like, right? Who here remembers days of our lives? How many of us grew up with life sands through the hourglass? I was shocked to hear that after 60 years, Days of Our Lives is still going.
15,000 episodes.
And some people have watched every single one of those.
Or Judge Judy, thousands of episodes.
Friends, 236 episodes.
And the hardcore Friends fans have watched every single one of those 236 episodes.
sometimes more than once, or twice, or three times.
And then let's not forget the South African classics, Sir Van der Laan, Issy Dingo, Egoli, remember Egoli? Generations which have thousands and thousands of episodes between them.
And then for the younger generation, I'm not sure what you guys are watching, but just insert whatever series you've binge-watched lately.
But most of us know what it's like to get hooked on a series and then you say, I'm just going to watch one more episode and one episode becomes two and then three.
But somehow five episodes of Jonah and we're like, are we still in Jonah? Yes, we are still in Jonah.
Because if we can give hundreds and thousands of hours of our lives to stories that entertain us, surely we can give a few weeks to God's story.
Surely.
which doesn't just inform us, but it has the power through the Holy Spirit to transform us.
And so, yes, we are definitely still in Jonah and the story is definitely not over yet.
But before we get into this morning's episode, let's just recap quickly so that we all caught up and we're on the same page, especially for those who are visiting this morning.
