Jason ShaftonGuestAdamHostSo I'm going to ask a question and see if you guys give three different answers that I ask everyone when we start, which is how do you define entrepreneurial excellence sort of in general? And then I don't know if maybe your definition of an excellent entrepreneur has also changed with AI, but how do you define that?
what is

an excellent entrepreneur? Man, when you just put me on the spot, I'm just a simple capitalist man.

And so like, how can you sort of make a lot of money as a sort of really simple way? And then, you know, how do you build a business that makes that work? And I think, you know, if you think like a shareholder, And most shareholders are not buying stock because they're passionate about the thing that's printed on the paper there.

If you're working for a huge Fortune 500 company, you're working for a lot of shareholders.

If you're somewhere in the middle in this, you know, kind of a startup funded or unfunded.

more than likely somebody else holds that paper it's probably you know stuck in a spreadsheet or in carta and uh so to me the excellence is like hey do you understand like the goal and like how is this making money like it's entrepreneurial i think of them as businesses like you Yeah, we could go to like, you know, nonprofits and churches and five threes or whatever.

How do you make money? And then how are you building something that, you know, has the right sort of alignment? Because, you know, you have people that are buying things.

You have something that somebody is building the things you're buying and whether that's humans or product.

And so, yeah, to me, the excellence is like, is that machine working? And it's like, you know, is the scoreboard going up?

Yeah, my answer is slightly different because I'm a growth and marketing guy in that I think entrepreneurial excellence can also mean building a brand that lasts something that endures.

So I spent the early part of my career at Google and I got to spend some time inside of Headspace and some of these really cool brands that people remember fondly.

And so I think great entrepreneurs build, you know, brands that can withstand the test of time.

And the other piece is, and Kevin and I have a lot of debates about this, but like, And a great entrepreneur also can build incredible culture and make people feel like they're part of something bigger than themselves.
