An expensive epic that audiences largely ignored, critics dismissed, and seemed destined for obscurity, but was saved by a later acquired cult status far more powerful than any opening weekend.

To fans of the Vikings, amongst whom I now humbly consider myself, this makes sense, because this story wanted to make these men larger than life, warriors emerging from the fog, ships cutting through black water, steel, fire and ancient codes of honour.
