And the further these fishermen went, the more cod they caught and dried, providing food for their long voyages.

Because cod were abundant in the North Atlantic and could easily be preserved, the voyages of ninth-century Viking fishermen gradually grew longer as their cod catch sustained them.

The pursuit of cod began to inspire early exploration from the northernmost reaches of Europe and later from the south.

The region between Spain and France along the Pyrenees Mountains was home to the Basque people.

Dense forests and abundant ore deposits in the Basque country made their shipbuilders the best in pre-Columbian Europe.

As they pursued right whales to the north, the Basques discovered the currents of the North Atlantic and the cod that inhabited the region in great abundance.

In the tenth century, Basque fishermen realized they could not only dry the fish as the Vikings did, but also use their connections to the Mediterranean trade, which provided abundant rock salt.

Drying and salting the fish enabled Basque fishermen to bring their catch back to southern Europe and integrate it into trade networks across the Iberian and Mediterranean regions.

the history of North America would have looked a whole lot different if the Black Death never happened.

Viking settlers in Greenland all but completely died out due to the plague and attacks by natives, so they were never able to get a foothold on mainland North America and properly settle the place.

Norway was enfeebled by the plague as well, so it couldn't get supplies to the settlements in Greenland founded centuries prior by Erik the Red.

Things got so bad that Greenland had to be rediscovered in 1585.

Without money, it was actually going way better because I was deeper in my prayer, my guidings, and I was more real in my journey somehow.

But every time my money got stolen, I kind of could feel a past life of being a Viking.

And I was like, oh my God, I have done so many bad stuff.

I'm still paying back for all the times that I was as a Viking person.

plunder and rob and doing bad things so every time when somebody steal my money I was of course really upset and I was not like hooray but I thought to myself okay it's just a payback again and I don't know how many times I still have to go through these paybacks but this is from my previous actions and then I always start to pray for the person that steal my money because I felt bad for that person and Because I know the karma that is created for itself.

I was like, oh, no, the person has to go through the same lessons and also get the payback at some point.

So I learned that as well.

But I still had to go through the payback sort of thing.
