When was the last time you watched *The Sound of Music?* Have you ever seen the play? Music teacher and director Meagan Thorup and I discuss our recent experience with being involved in the orchestra…
Meagan ThorupGuestCourtneyHostYeah, well, that's such an incredible story, because isn't that something that we can all relate to, is that we all have to go through some kind of difficult... longer section or period of time in our lives where it's a discovery or it's really hard but then looking back on it it's like i knew i needed that time for for what my growth looked like for my journey yes for maria it was really hard you know being a nun is very strict And if you watched her, you know, you watch the nun singing, she climbs a tree, scrapes her deer, let's just go out of there.
You know, that's like she was definitely not fit for it.
But had she not gone that path, has she not felt felt that call from that pastor?
But it's actually a mass type of, you know, sermon.
Had she not felt that, she would have never have found where she needed to end up.
But that, to me, is just a testament if you believe in God, which Megan and I both do.
that there's a certain path that we all have to go down for our refinement in the uh the play slash movie if you listen to the dialogue that goes between maria and mother abbas when mother abbas pulls her in and says you know we've got an assignment for you we got seven children to watch maria um mentions that yeah i'm gonna butcher the dialogue just that like she heard the nuns singing and she felt like kind of essentially called that she wanted to be a nun and she looked over into the garden and and just she just felt a pull of where she needed to be and many of us feel some kind of pull of where we need to be but it may not necessarily be where you need to end up like thoughts on that megan

So my dad passed away a year ago, and my mom has been figuring out, like, Now what? What do I want to be when I grow up? She keeps saying that.

But as I've been talking to her, as she's trying to figure out her life's direction, I've thought a lot about my own life's direction.

And not so long ago, I kind of got off on this thing where I was done with it.
