Happy? Pride Month on Soaps

It got me thinking, because I was going to do my annual kind of Pride episode during Pride Month, of the soaps in Pride.

Some years, we have lots to be thankful for in terms of representation on soaps, and this year, we're not.

I want to preface this by saying that I know I've in the past had people tell me, this is gay people tell me, I don't watch the soaps for representation.

So if there's anybody gay on there, they don't care.

Same with black people.

I've had somebody who told me, I don't watch soaps just for black folks.

I watch soaps, I like the soaps.

Now, I don't know if these people are trolling me just because, because they will do that just because they can.

but let's just say these folks really mean it.

And I guess my thought is, well, you're conditioned to think that way.

If you really do feel that way, then you're conditioned to think that way because this whole time, how little representation you've had of any queer people or black blonde soaps, it's just, we have learned if you are of a, uh, less represented group, we have learned to watch these shows and enjoy them.

There are so many characters I love that are gay on these shows or Black on these shows that are great characters.

There are certain characters Black folks lean towards, like a Victor Newman on YNR.

Very beloved.

Or a Mara West who plays Ava.

Mara West, period.

Another one.

I always feel...

I always feel that it is still important to have all people representative of the audience who's watching.

Just how I am.

Especially...
