Shaun | @ParlayBros is back on the channel three years later, and he's stopped adding to the high-dividend payers that built his income — including Altria, still…
So like, for example, when I first started learning about like your show and dividend investing, I know when I was first down, I talked about kind of like the origin of like, how do I do this? Like, how do people do investing without just normal 401k and advisors? So I kind of call that the discovery stage.
That's where I was in 2019, kind of like COVID times when I was looking into like, you know, my big thing was like, who is Warren Buffett? Like, who is this guy? And like, who is like Charlie Munger and all these like investing people and how'd they make all this money? And So that's kind of the discovery stage of like the first, like, how do, how do people do this besides just handing money to an advisor or keeping money in a bank? You know, that's when you start looking at like, what's a brokerage account.
You know, I think I read something that only like one out of 10 people have a brokerage account.
Like 90% of people don't ever really actively do that.
So if you're listening to this and you have a brokerage account, be proud.
You're like already in the top 10 percentile.
And then just like me discovering what a dividend was, you know, one of the books I read, I don't remember the title of something that Warren Buffett wrote.
And it was talking about his, his whole thing was like Coca-Cola dividends and Wells Fargo and all these different things.
And I really had no idea you can make an income from just holding a stock, which was like, Whoa, this is crazy.
So that would be like the discovery stage of like, wait a minute, what this is crazy.
And then getting started.
I know for me in 2019 was crazy.
I'm going to go open up this thing called a brokerage account.
And I think I put a thousand dollars and might've been 3000.
Cause it was like an Admiral account or something, whatever they call it.
But just like, I think my first purchase was VLO.
I just bought like just some index fund.
And then as I was listening to your show and reading books, I started buying more blue chip, pretty much all individual stocks.
And then, you know, so the getting started phase was like actually going and linking my checking account, kind of scary, like I'm going to do this.
The next phase, I would say, is testing the theory.
So now we've made a few trades where it's not that scary.
You know, you just hit T for AT&T and buy one share and hit market value and poof, and now you own AT&T.
Wow, exciting.
