075 - A Dragon Arrives!

so today we are doing an interesting film um lots of layers and lots of things to discuss Mani Hariri is a filmmaker.

We haven't touched on any of his films yet.

But one thing I will say about him is I find it interesting how one of his films has been one of the most elusive Iranian films for me to ever find online.

I've been desperately seeking it.

I've asked some of the best online cinema sleuths to help me track it down to no avail.

that film, if you recall, Farhan, is the film Subtraction.

Do you remember? I even probably asked you once to help me find it.

Probably.

I probably have better resources now to try to track it down, to be honest.

There's a way better chance that I could find this movie now.

Well, it's just like interesting because when we were discussing film, like genre horror, like genre films within the Iranian cinematic film culture, I'd stumble upon this film called Subtraction, which is called A Married Couple Believe They've Met Their Doppelgangers in Tehran.

I'm like, ooh, spooky, weird.

Ah, this one.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

And I was just – and it played at TIFF.

Never saw it.

I don't know if it was like a Midnight Manifest or – sorry, Midnight Manifest.

Madness.

What's it called? Madness.

But like I cannot find this movie.

And I don't mean pirating.

I mean like literally I want to rent this film and pay money or own it or buy it.

Digital copy, physical copy, Blu-ray, DVD, a legal stream on YouTube.

I have good news for you,

Kava.
