Now, a guy named Dane Dunstan wrote an article called When Blockbuster Forgot What Business They Were In.

And he analyzed the fact that over the 28 year span of Blockbuster Video, they had had six CEOs.

And Blockbuster Video thrived under three of those CEOs.

And they really struggled.

under the three other CEOs.

Now the three CEOs the company thrived under saw Blockbuster as an entertainment company.

At their essence, that's who they were.

The three CEOs in which Blockbuster failed under saw it simply as a retail store.

So guess who was the CEO when Netflix came in the room and pitched this in the cloud, different way of getting streaming into homes.

It was a retail guy who's like, that doesn't fit in our store.

And he balked at it and they missed the opportunity.

Really, here's the issue.

They forgot what business they were in.

Their retail approach was too one-dimensional.

Now I tell you that story because the church actually faces the same dilemma, the same danger.

That danger is for lack of a better term, forgetting what business we are in.

It is so easy to forget why the church exists, like what it is actually for.

We must never forget that.

And yet it's so easy to forget why we are to do what we are to do or what we should give ourselves to doing because that's our purpose.

Now, Jesus was super clear.

We're going to look at that all morning.

Jesus was super clear.

He told us why the church exists and what its purpose is simply put to make disciples.

Okay.

If we're the executives of the church boardroom, that's our purpose.
