Aug 10, 2026 · 1 hr 31 min · 11 segments
We’re on holiday and/or having various life issues going on, so here’s a classic episode to help prime you for our upcoming Black Hole episode! Yes, Star Trek: The Motion Picture was released almost…
Charlie Etheridge-NunnHostMiles Reed-LibatoHostWe start off with Uhura finding an unusual distress call, and Spock says there's no life coming from where the distress call's, uh, coming from, and something's coming towards them.
Time for everyone to tumble around the set, which is frankly always a joy, but not for the crew.
Anyway, these attacks are gonna wreck the ship if they keep coming, and torpedoes are doing nothing.
It's all looking a bit bad, so fine, let's start actually trying to talk to whoever's doing this.
How dare they? This, this message, it's from something called Nomad, and its mission is apparently non-hostile despite the shooting.
It wants to speak to them, and it's a bit too small for people when they're like, "Is this a ship or something?" And no, it's way too small to beam anyone over to it, and otherwise they'll be, you know, off in space, I guess.
And I thought maybe it's a salt and pepper shaker, just not a Dalek-type one.
But actually, think about it again, this is kind of like a giant toothbrush, like a giant electric toothbrush, just without the brush part of it.
Like, it feels like someone is dangling it from a bit of twine or a bit of, like, fishing line or something, uh, when it floats around.
It floats around and it asks about the tour, it asks about where they come from.
Well, Kirk decides it's fine to say Earth solar system, 'cause it doesn't know where that is.
And problem is, yes, Nomad knows exactly where Earth is and believes Kirk to be someone who's its creator.
