Um, if you didn't know what Jason is doing, you should watch the Star Trek episode The Arena because if Spock were aboard the Enterprise observing remotely what Jason Dresen, Deszner was doing, he'd be like, "Oh, s- a sulfur powder, charcoal.

If only Jason could get ahold of some saltpeter, he could maybe improvise-

And it's, it's, it's reminiscent of the humor that comes from, like, Spock cussing in Star Trek IV.

[laughs] Yeah, I would've liked to have seen a scene where, like, Data later apologizes for his profanity here-

There are actually really funny Spock cussing moments in IV.

I go, I can't remember exactly-

And then this would not have been the dialogue for sure.

We also had a comment from Pelgo69 from 19 minutes into the episode when we were talking.

Wrote, on Spock and La'an's relationship and to Spock's character change in the original series, you mean you guys haven't been picking up on the telegraph that La'an is going to die? Yeah.

Pale Ghost, no, I haven't been picking up on that.

I have been picking up on something really bad is going to happen, but I'm not taking that as she's going to die because the showrunners of this show don't feel like they're that ballsy.

Yeah, I agree.

There's a there's definitely a fuse burning in the background.

And there are from a writerly perspective, I think that there are a number of ways that it could play out, all of which could have the deep impact that you're talking about and could play a big role in saying, how are we jumping towards Spock becoming the Spock we know from the original series? Death or not, I agree with you.

Something something is ticking.

And you don't, you sort of miss that in the episode.

It's like, you know, Spock and his nephew will have to beam down and he's going to have to wipe out a million colonists because he can't let, he's got the authority to kill a million people if he feels they're a threat.

And I think that's, And it just the power of a starship has always I've always been fascinated by

it.

I like his little line of I've had command before, maybe not always like, not always the greatest, but it's like,

yeah.

How about the, how about the line of, you know, don't worry, Spock, you'll get to turn that lot of the mind on some lucky captain.

I love the, the spirk bait you guys are giving this season.

I have vague memories.

In 1969, I'm assuming that my parents had it on TV, and I remember seeing Spock with his pointy ears.

Yeah.

But I really got into it in the early 70s.

I mean, no, it's – oh, actually, now that I think of it, D.C. was also – Dorothy Fontana was also the story editor for the 17 episodes.

The thing that was so formative to me is that it was hitting me at the exact age of, I was a very curious kid, and my parents had the Funkin' Wagnalls.

So anytime Kirk said something, or Spock probably usually, that I didn't understand, I'd just go look it up, either in the dictionary or our encyclopedia set.

And so it just kind of hit me that as I'm learning about the world, it's through this giant Star Trek lens.
